“World-class, unparalleled, greatest, biggest, most diverse, greenest and eco-grooviest. Able to leap tall buildings in a single rave, the new state-of-the-art and state-of-the-planet incarnation of the California Academy of Sciences is generating kilowatts of excitement and kudos”, commenta il Los Angeles Times. Spiega oggi ArtDaily:

In Piano’s design, the environmentally sensitive components of the building are featured, rather than hidden. The living roof, which reduces storm water runoff by up to 3.6 million gallons of water per year, includes an observation deck, allowing visitors to admire the rooftop wildlife haven and learn about the importance of water conservation. The roof is bordered by a glass canopy containing nearly 60,000 photo voltaic cells, which produce over 5 percent of the Academy’s annual energy needs and prevent the release of over 405,000 pounds of greenhouse gas emissions each year. These photo voltaic cells are clearly visible in the glass canopy, providing both shade and visual interest for the visitors below.

A seguire, un video di Wired, girato a settembre.
